Dw by Kanye West: This is NOT a Show Review.

You can check FashionBomb and for well-written runway show reviews of the debut collection for Mr. West. My post, more or less, was written to air “fist dap” Ye for his unbounded spirit and prowess as a new designer conquering corners of the square minded individuals that have yet to realize that he is more than hip-hop. Ye easily tacked on 5 gazillions more cool points in my book with his women’s wear collection. When I found out that he worked with the top movers and shakers of the fashion industry to present a quality collection, I was even more inspired -not to mention the subtle but tactful choice of the name for the collection, Dw [after late mother, Donda West] further sealed the deal for me.

I appreciate Kanye for taking this new and daring direction within his career. I’m excited to see more of his evolution as an artist, designer, and entrepreneur. People like Kanye always remind me to not only think outside of the box but to think outside of myself and what I think I’m capable of doing because the truth is -I can, we can, do anything.

It’s Not Just a Blog.

A My Modest Mouth reader commented on one of my posts recently asking ‘what do I do‘? She asked because she saw on my TWITTER PAGE that it read “My Modest Mouth LLC”.
Yes, for all those that didn’t know, I recently filed for my LLC. My Modest Mouth is officially a company.

Fashion and Beauty Consulting. BOOM.

But why?! Other than the fact that I love what I do and want to pursue it more seriously; the fact is, it’s a smart move. Much love and respect to all my fellow bloggers. I love reading about your opinions, viewing your pictures and learning more and more from your useful tips, tutorials, and special events. But let’s be smart…let’s think big — let’s think BUSINESS.

Of course, you are! I’m all about promoting self-growth, welcoming a challenge and calling something your own.

Curly Girl Collective Event

Last night I went to an amazing event hosted by Curly Girl Collective in the city. I received word of the event at the last minute and I was so glad I made the impromptu decision to cover the event!!! It was so well organized and classy. The women who attended were absolutely gorgeous. I felt so blessed to be in a room with fellow natural black beautiful women.
It was quite the experience.
But before I get into the CGC event. The most random thing happened (because all the random things in life occur in New York City) …… let me tell you about my 5-second friends……
hollis_wakeemaI ran into a few people on the street who admired my hair and outfit and I the same. Of course, we stopped dead in our tracks, including traffic and ran to each other to spill over in compliments…
“Omg! You’re shoes! The heel! I love your heel!”
“And your hair! Natural Hair! My hair is a natural too girl, don’t mind the weave!”
It was so spontaneous, I loved it! But trading flattering words with other beautiful women did not surprise me, it was the fact that one of the women was model Hollis Wakeema! No friggin way?!
…………. WAY.
Hollis Wakeema is signed to New York Model and she has graced many fashion runways for designers like Marc Jacobs, Tracy Reese, Jean Paul Gautier and more!
She was such a sweetheart!
When I finally arrived at the event it was jam-packed with vendors, twist outs, cocktails, make-up, and music!!!

But wait, are you drooling yet???? Because I have not even posted a picture of my favorite natural style!

Photographer Hannan Saleh: Saleh was shooting for Ebony Magazine Street Style

H&M Visual Merchandiser.
Loved her purse!

AHHHH I almost DIED.
The gracious sponsors, Titi and Miko of Miss Jessie’s was there giving out gift bags to all attendees filled with their products (I got their Curly Pudding!!). They also conducted a live big chop at the event on a young woman who had been growing her permed hair out for a year.
